Galloway Police responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection on
Moss Mill Rd
and
Old Port Rd
in the Smithville section of
Galloway
Township
. A school bus, operated by Jennifer McDonald, age 21 of
Egg
Harbor
City
was North on
Old Port Rd
, stopped (Stop Sign) at the intersection of
Moss Mill Rd.
The bus driver attempted to make a left turn onto
Moss Mill Rd
(West) when it collided with an eastbound vehicle, a 1997 Ford Explorer
(Driver information withheld at this time.)The bus is owned by Integrity Bus
and contained 30 students from the
Smithville
Elementary School
in
Galloway
Township
who were on their way home from school. The Atlantic County EMS Task Force
(Mutual Aid Ambulances) and AtlantiCare Medics responded, as well as Bayview,
Oceanville and Port Republic Fire Companies for extrication (Ford Explorer)
and to support EMS. 18 students were transported to AtlantiCare Regional
Medical Centers in both Galloway Twp and
Atlantic City
with non life threatening (minor) injuries. The driver of the Explorer was
transported via NJSP Southstar helicopter to
Cooper
Hospital
in
Camden
. School officials from the
Smithville
School
and the
Galloway
School District
were on scene assisting students and contacting parents of involved students.
The accident is under investigation and any witnesses are asked to call
Officer Kevin Costa at (609) 652-3705 Ext 086. The roadway was shut down for 2
hours.

Walker, age 50 of
Galloway
