block of S. Genoa Ave. in the Pomona section.
The residence houses employees of a blueberry farm.
Upon arrival of Galloway Township Police officers and fire personnel
heavy fire was showing from a second floor bedroom. A resident of this address, Arnoldo Lopez, 42, was
assisted from the house by a passer-by and a farm worker prior to the arrival
of emergency personnel. Lopez was
taken by ambulance to Atlanticare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus for
minor injuries. An investigation by Galloway Township Police Sergeant
Joseph J. Picardi and Galloway Township Fire Investigator Ron Garbutt resulted
in Lopez being arrested at the hospital for aggravated arson.
Judge Howard Freed set bail at $75,000 cash. Lopez is being held at a New Jersey Department of
Corrections facility in Trenton. The Pomona, Germania, South Egg Harbor, and Port Republic fire companies responded to the scene along with the Galloway Township Ambulance Squad and Atlanticare Paramedics. The Pleasantville and Stockton College Police Departments also assisted.
